The size of the pipe can be 1.5” or 2” Schedule 40 PVC. The 2” is preferred because it has a lower friction loss; but for 6 panels 1.5” will be ok.






The typical layout diagram above shows that the plumbing feeds on one corner and returns from the opposite top corner. In this layout the return pipe then comes back across the top of the panels and returns next to the feed line back to the pool equipment. However, you can also route the return line directly down from where it exits the panels, and return to the equipment from that end. The routing of the pipes is based on the easiest and best looking way to get to/from the pool equipment – the only requirement is that the feed and return are on opposite ends of the panels as shown.
